QAnon is a conspiracy theory based on the idea that an elite group of Satan-worshipping pedophiles controls everything from Hollywood celebrities to Democratic politicians and media outlets. It claims to reveal truths from an anonymous source called “Q.” The narrative also has a number of far-fetched and evidence-free subplots, such as John F Kennedy Jr being alive (he isn’t) and the Rothschild family controlling all world economies (they don’t).

Despite the many criticisms of QAnon, its followers are devoted to it. Some adherents have been charged with crimes such as environmental vandalism, shooting paintballs at military reservists and abducting children from foster care.

QAnon spread from its fringe beginnings on 4chan and 8chan (now 8kun) to more mainstream online communities. These include Reddit communities such as r/conspiracy. The movement draws from various sources, including a rebranded version of the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, an anti-Jewish pamphlet written around the turn of the 20th century.

The Q Chart

This chart (or q matrix) provides students with a framework for developing open-ended, divergent questions. It can be used before, during, or after reading a text. This method can be a powerful way to promote inquiry skills and help students engage in deeper thinking about topics. It can also be used to assess student comprehension and understanding.

Using the QC2 can be a great way to spark discussion in the classroom. Students can create questions in each of the four different quadrants of the chart. For example, students can write questions that are more analytical or prediction-based in the bottom and right quadrants of the chart. Questions in the top and left quadrants should be more open-ended, divergent questions.

Once students have created questions, they can use them in class during discussions or think-pair-share activities. This activity can be used for all grades and subject areas. Teachers can even use the QC2 to help students develop critical thinking skills.
